Partnership for a Child-Safe Internet
A Special Town Meeting
Monday, December 4th, 2006

On December 4th, the University of New Hampshire’s Crimes against Children Research Center will host an important forum on Partnering for a Child-Safe Internet, featuring a conversation about how to create and preserve a safe and healthy Internet environment for New Hampshire youth. It will take place from 10:00 AM - 11:45 AM in the Strafford Room at the Memorial Union Building at the University of New Hampshire.

Since 1998, the Crimes against Children Research Center, under the leadership of Professor David Finkelhor, has worked to inform the national law enforcement community, parents, educators and the media about new and important trends concerning Internet child abuse. Among its partners have been the U.S. Department of Justice, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the UNH-based Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Justiceworks.

Town Meeting Objectives:

This special event will bring together leaders from government and industry to discuss the next steps in the state’s campaign to advance Internet safety.

Specifically:

The Critical Role of Research:
This forum will highlight the national leadership role taken by UNH in understanding emerging Internet threats to America’s youth;

Law Enforcement:
The forum will report on new initiatives in law enforcement and prosecution;

Education:
It will underscore the need for effective educational programs for youth, parents and teachers for sustained success;

Strengthening Partnerships:
It will discuss how education, law enforcement, business and government can form partnerships to achieve positive change; and finally,

Advancing Solutions:
It will celebrate today’s successes with an eye on needed action in 2007.
